Who We Are

Founded by a Marine Scout Sniper and lifelong hunter, HMHS blends riflecraft, fieldcraft, and backcountry skills to guide students toward ethical, confident hunting.

High Mountain Hunting School is a small, quietly committed training company based in the Northern California Mount Shasta area, teaching new and first-generation hunters to move through wild places with purpose. Founded by Jason Burkleo, a Marine Scout Sniper and lifelong hunter, HMHS blends riflecraft, fieldcraft, and practical wilderness skills, guiding students to plan each hunt with clear intention while building the quiet confidence that comes from honest work in rugged terrain.

Why Choose Us

The HMHS Training Arc

You don’t need to be a professional. You don’t need a six-figure rifle or a background in the Marines. All you need is a willingness to learn, a respect for the process, and enough grit to lace your boots when it’s cold out.

We meet hunters where they are and equip them with the skills, knowledge, and mindset to safely and successfully hunt in the backcountry.

To build a culture of passionate, ethical hunters prepared for the wilderness and committed to conservation for future generations.
