Laser Lithotripsy: Ureteroscopy (URS) for Kidney and Ureter Stones<\/strong><\/p>

Ureteroscopy (URS) is a procedure used to treat stones in the kidney and ureter. It involves passing a very small telescope, called a ureteroscope<\/strong>, through the bladder, up the ureter, and into the kidney. This allows the urologist to directly visualize and treat the stone without making any incisions.<\/p>

Types of Ureteroscopes<\/strong><\/p>

  • Rigid telescopes<\/strong> are used to treat stones located in the lower part of the ureter, near the bladder.<\/li>
  • Flexible telescopes<\/strong> are used for stones located in the upper ureter or the kidney.<\/li><\/ul>

    How Does the Procedure Work?<\/strong><\/p>

    General anesthesia is administered to ensure you are comfortable during the procedure. Once the urologist has visualized the stone using the ureteroscope, smaller stones may be removed with a small basket-like device.<\/p>
