Potential causes include:<br \/>\u2022 Idiopathic Hematuria (no identifiable cause)<br \/>\u2022 Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)<br \/>\u2022 Stones (kidney, ureter, bladder)<br \/>\u2022 Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) (enlarged prostate in men)<br \/>\u2022 Trauma<br \/>\u2022 Jogger\u2019s Hematuria (due to vigorous exercise or sex)<br \/>\u2022 Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)<br \/>\u2022 Tumors (kidney, ureter, bladder, prostate, urethra)<br \/>\u2022 Kidney Diseases<br \/>\u2022 Medications (e.g., quinine, rifampin, phenytoin)<br \/>\u2022 Viral Infections<br \/>Rare Conditions and Genetic Disorders<br \/>Some rare diseases and genetic disorders can also lead to hematuria, including:<br \/>\u2022 Sickle Cell Anemia (an inherited blood disorder)<br \/>\u2022 Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (a chronic inflammatory disorder of connective tissue)<\/p><p><strong>Note:<\/strong> Certain foods and substances (e.g., rhubarb, beets, food coloring, certain medications) can cause urine to appear pink without actual blood being present. Additionally, liver diseases and dehydration can darken urine, but these conditions are not considered true hematuria.<\/p><p><strong>Evaluation and Diagnosis<\/strong><\/p><p>If you notice blood in your urine, even if it\u2019s only once, contact your doctor immediately. If hematuria is found without other symptoms, your doctor will conduct further evaluations.
